Set It Ablaze

Social platforms, the internet, and other sources of media tend to serve up the highest points of life and the lowest. If you go to view your local news site right now you’ll surely see headliners about whatever crimes, lottery winners, and others highlights. Of course life has its highs and its lows but when we are constantly inundated by this sort of media it can leave us feeling like our lives are boring or unsatisfying. The reality is that life is quite boring. A lot of our time is spent doing the mundane things like taking out the trash, taking care of pets, paying the bills, and whatever else life calls for us to do.

Chasing the quick hits of those “high moments” in life is in some way similar to drug addiction. Looking for the next surge of dopamine like a hound with its snout to the ground peering through our social media feeds for something funny or interesting, plugging out that cigarette from the pack, or maybe scouting out those candy bars after filling up at the gas station. The next high is always just around the corner for this style of living but we always come down so quickly and find ourselves right back where we started.

I bid to you that lasting satisfaction comes from turning the wheels over time and again. It hides behind going the extra mile and following the more arduous paths in life, behind the shrubs that not many care to tend to. Starting to trim back the branches slowly is more than enough to set spark to flame on the whole lot of them lining that road that waits for you ahead.

Take care friends,

Jordan
