Brick By Brick

There’s something powerful about drawing up the goalposts for ourselves. We fill the empty horizon of the future with something more interesting and less bleak. Looking to the future is most certainly a great way to make changes in our lives that are meaningful and without it we are as good as lost at sea. Many opt to mark their calendar with the end of their thirty day diet, or to spot the end of their habit building exercise. In doing so it is easy to lose track of the process.

It is the process that sails the ship from port A to port B. The sails must of course be rigged properly to ensure safe travels on the journey ahead but it is the sail that catches the wind. Along the way if our sail decides it’s had enough and disappears we’re left like a sitting duck. We are the sail to our endeavors. If we are too occupied with gazing into the horizon we miss entirely what’s in front of us. This is how we arrive, the process.

Plans can often become complicated and require a real sense of strategy to achieve. If we show up and make our positive contributions as a brick layer could lay a single brick to a wall each day we are all capable of great things. It was once said in jest that if Thomas Edison were to be asked to find a needle in a hay stack, he would begin to take it apart piece by piece one piece of hay at a time. He was a master of the process as he utilized this approach in his search for a reliable filament.

One step at a time.

Take care friends,

Jordan
